RHS Bridgewater
Client:
Royal Horticultural Society
Location:
Bridgewater
The newly commissioned RHS centre near Manchester is to be opened in 2021. The development of the RHS’ new Garden Bridgewater is one of the biggest projects that the charity has undertaken in its 200 plus year history, as well as being one of the biggest gardening projects in Europe at this time.
Miles Water Engineering were employed to design and build the main feature lake adjoining the new Welcome Building. This new lined lake was built in the challenging peat soils and an active water table.
Miles Water Engineering were also awarded the contract to build another key feature on the site the extensive rock lined stream running through the Chinese Stream Side Garden, a fusion of British & Chinese horticulture flowing from the historic Ellesmere lake with stepping stones, bridges, pools and rock cascades into the new feature lake, Worsley Water.
This project also included renovation of the original historic Ellesmere Lake, clearing away 100 years of silts to restore it to its former glory.
